Graca & Santa Engracia – The popuar old town area with fantastic views

This beautiful old town quarter Graca/Santa Engracia starts north of Alfama. In the traditional and historic neighbourhood you can find a lot of important sights and shopping possibilities. The nicest view points of the whole city are located in Graca, offering you stunning views of the Tejo estuary while you can enjoy a cold drink in one of the little cafés. Especially in the morning or during sunset, unique experiences are guaranteed there. We especially recommend you Miradouro da Graca, located in front of Graca church, with its breathtaking view to the castle and all the way to the 25 de Abril bridge. From Miradouro da Graca it only takes you a short walk to Miradouro Nossa Senhora do Monte which also offers stunning panoramic views. Our insider tip is Santa Engracia. Some of our most beautiful apartments are located in the neighbourhood Santa Engracia between Graca and Santa Apolonia station. In this district you can experience authentic Lisbon life away from the tourist trodden paths. Tiny grocery stores, friendly cafes and a wide range of traditional workshops will inspire you. The old cobbler at Rua Washington and the brass workshop at Escadinhas do Bairro América doing there job here since over 40 years. We also recommend you to visit Museu da Agua (the water museum). Furthermore you can reach the famous National Tile Museum in just about 10 walking minutes from Santa Engracia quarter.

Wining, Dining and Shopping
O Pitéu da Graca is a well known restaurant at Largo da Graca and our recommendation for fresh portuguese food. It is especially known for its delicious traditional pork meat dishes and the best Bacalhau in Lisbon. If you wish to try a portuguese traditional restaurant, we can recommend you „O Satelite da Graca“, nothing special, but unpretentious cousine, located at Largo da Graca. A small modern restaurant is Gato Pardo at Rua de Sao Vicente. The portuguese/swiss owner care fantastic for all of their guests. Our favourite restaurant in Santa Engracia is „O Paquito“ which is situated in Rua Fernao de Magalhaes. Everyday except Sunday, two or three freshly cooked and delicious dishes are served in a simple and cosy atmosphere. You can choose between fish and meat. The restaurant closes at about midnight. Directly in front of „O Paquito“, you can buy fresh fruit and a lot of portuguese specialities like traditional ham and tasty cheese from the Alentejo in Senhor Graciano's well-assorted shop are excellent!

Transport from the Airport
Lisbon airport is a city airport and only about 9 km away. The fastest and most convenient way is to take a taxi but we strongly recommend that you negotiate the price before you set off. It costs around €15. From the airport you can take also the metro until Santa Apolonia station with only one change at Sao Sebastiao. From Santa Apolonia station you can take the bus 735 up to the Graca hill.
